4D Biology – Exploring the guts of evolution.

To understand Biology, you have to know how life assembles itself, grows and changes over time. Evolutionary biologists soon learn to think of organisms not just in their current form, but in terms of their ancestor-descendent relationships. These relationships, and other kinds of change over time, give every organism a sort of fourth dimension, which the biologist has to account for (at least in passing). As you get to know the world of biology, you will start to see these relationships yourself. You will begin to see a hazy reflection of the mongoose and civet when you look at a cat, and every pigeon will proudly show you its inner dinosaur. It’s like discovering a new color, and it makes the world we live in a thousand times richer.
